Connecticut's affectionate self-applied demonym, tied to the state's nickname 'the Nutmeg State'. One legend says colonial Yankee peddlers sold gullible buyers fake wooden nutmegs; historians lean toward the simpler explanation that Connecticut merchants imported the spice during the West Indies trade. 'Connecticuter' is technically correct but no one says it.
