Witch of November

The name Great Lakes sailors give to the powerful November storms that have wrecked freighters for over a century. The most famous victim was the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, lost on Lake Superior on November 10, 1975, immortalized in Gordon Lightfoot's song. On the Lakes, 'the Witch is coming' is shorthand for a major late-fall storm, not folklore.
