The Pike

Connecticut drivers say 'the Pike' when referring to a turnpike, most often the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) on the way to Boston, though historically it also applied to the old Connecticut Turnpike along I-95. Locals talk about 'getting on the Pike' or 'traffic on the Pike' when discussing travel out of state. It reflects the New England habit of giving highways definite-article nicknames.
