A signature Washington, D.C. sausage that is larger, spicier, and more coarsely ground than a regular hot dog, traditionally a mix of pork and beef that is smoked before grilling. It is served on a bun with mustard, chopped onions, and a thick chili sauce. Briggs and Company began selling them around 1930, and Ben's Chili Bowl on U Street made them world-famous; the half-smoke is the official sausage of the Washington Nationals.
